Give yourself permission to put the great losses of your life into words — “Writing about truly painful subjects like death, illness, divorce, war — anything that deeply changes your life — is as brave as holding a hand over a flame that’s already burned you once.”
I realized I made a miscalculation in the emailed version of this newsletter that went out (now corrected above). My dad was 77, not 74, when he first started his blog.
I am so looking forward to our conversation, and thank you again for sharing the reasons you write, and the reasons that our meeting mattered to you. I love that photo of your parents. <3
Me too. And sadly the reasons to grieve just keep piling up. If there is one good thing that has come out of the pandemic I think it is that our culture is finally starting to open up about talking about grief in a public way.
You can find the recording of the conversation I had with Jessica at https://louisejulig.substack.com/p/braving-the-fire-revisited-recording#details

Your father is amazing. Thank you for telling us about him. Great post, Louise.
Great that your father did this. I ordered Jessica's book.Unfortunately I can't make the session on the 16th.
We will record it, so if you are interested, please register anyway so we can make sure to send you the recording link.
Please tell your father that his story inspires me!
I will!
Also, his post about turning some of your mother's clothing into quilts was so touching and beautifully written. That story will stay with me. ❤️
