Feeling this, yesss!! Many of us dealing with this phase, for sure. Am in process of so much letting go, re many things/ mementos/ objects in my mom's house. Mom has Alzheimer's; so many layers of grief. Thank you, Louise!
Yes, there are so many layers to our grief! It's valuable I think to take the time to sift through them if we can be brave enough to stay with the feelings that come up. Thanks for your comment :-)
It's amazing how much power an object can hold over us. Particularly when it belonged to someone we love who is no longer here. This definitely resonates.
I’m at work right now, on the clock and FINALLY got around to reading your email. I can’t say to much about women’s sports so I’m gonna leave that one alone. 😁 However, I had no idea the chest came from Asia! I remember that big, shiny Airstream as well! When Grandpa and Grandma Peggy came to see us in NY, he’d driven so long that my Mom ended up taking him to the hospital because he ended up getting chest pains. I remember it like it was yesterday so well. I remember the address, the sights and sounds and seeing both of them too. Next time I go and see you and Jim, I’d love to take a trip up to their old home in NOCAL. Thanks Louise! ❤️
Thanks for the memories, Scott. I had no idea he had to go to the hospital! Their old home is about a 9 hour drive from us (California is a big state!) but if you visit my sister she is much closer to where they used to live, only about an hour away.
What a beautiful object that carries so much history in your family. I haven't been able to let go of many of my objects. I still have a rusted rifle from the Spanish Civil War that my dad got for me when I was about 13 and on vacation in Spain. I'm no longer fixated on army things but still can't let it go.
That is a very cool artifact. I definitely have kept many things from my parents' house, but I'm trying to skew towards smaller items that I know I will display and not keep in a box. However that doesn't count several bankers boxes of framed photos that I have no idea where I will put. I may hire an interior designer to help after we repaint our interior. An idea at least!

Thanks for the comment, Abby. I think there are a lot of us out there dealing with this same phase of life.
